CV
My work history and education has been varied allowing me to gain qualifications and skills in a variety of areas. My qualifications include philosophy, counselling, social work, grief therapy and I am an Accredited Journey Practitioner. I have completed short workshops in art therapy and other complementary healing practises. I studied, in the seventies, at the University of Waikato, graduating with a B.A. majoring in philosophy (with a minor in psychology). I
trained as a 'Philosophy for Children' teacher in the early nineties following
a withdrawal from my master's degree in Philosophy at the University of Auckland
where I was majoring in meta-physics. My post graduate studies at Massey University,
Albany Campus were completed in 1997 and I graduated in 1998, with Honours in
Master of Social Work (Applied). My final research paper asked, "What are
the psycho-spiritual implications of using creativity as a therapeutic tool in
the healing process?" I have been employed in a variety of organisations throughout the years, but in recent years, was employed with Greenpeace, NZ and have spent over seven years working in the problem gambling sector, where I developed a strong understanding of health promotion, wellness and quality of life issues, particularly as they affect individuals, families and communities. Initially I was employed as a Hotline counsellor and rose to the position of National Manager of Public Health, attending conferences internationally and presenting on health promotion and the negative social consequences of gambling. My interest in the transcendent aspect of life often expresses itself in my art, poetry and writing and I have exhibited in several group exhibitions in Tokoroa, Rotorua, Hamilton, Auckland and have had several solo exhibitions. Fairly extensive travel has been an enjoyment in my life and I am privileged to have visited many galleries in many parts of the world. Currently, I am working toward a new body of work, experimenting with neon and other lighting effects. My musical interests led me to study the harp for many years with Delphine McAneney, who was a protégé of Susan McDonald, a well known harpist, in the States. I
live at Ivy Cottage, Greenhithe, in a magical garden (www.ivycottage.co.nz) where
I continue to paint and where I am completing a
trilogy about my life and search for truth, which ultimately outlines the journey
from separation to wholenes. Christine Wykes
